I've always been a writer and avid reader. My parents loved to read and collect books, which meant the bookshelves in our home were always full. I've always loved to tell stories, and I have some very distinct memories of writing stories in school and entertaining family and friends with various tales.
My professional writing career began long before I was published. I took all the writing courses offered in college, and after graduating, enrolled in the children's writing course offered through the Institute of Children's Literature. I realized I'd found my niche.
Soon afterward, I heard about the MFA in Writing for Children and Teens offered through Vermont College. I applied and was thrilled to learn I was accepted! It was a life-changing experience on many levels. I met and worked with wonderful faculty and students and started my first book for Enslow while in the program.
I worked part time for many years, and a few years ago, with the birth of our second child, I quit my "day job" and have worked from home doing various writing projects. I love being able to spend time with my children and do the work that I love—writing and teaching.
Now, several books and many writing projects later, I focus on educational books, projects, and teaching. I love to learn and teach, and have taught at the high school and university levels, both online and in the classroom. I've written for all ages of students, from preschoolers through adults. Currently, I work as an instructor with ICL and an online university. My work includes books, chapters, and special learning projects.
Making learning fun and engaging is important. I've written on many subject areas, including those in language arts, science, social studies, and math, incorporating grade-level appropriate material, creativity, puzzles, and activities to supplement learning materials.
